MASSAD AYOOB GROUP CLASSES 2011  Our 2010 class was so successful that Derby Guns is pleased to announce Massad Ayoob is not only bringing his MAG40 training course to Phoenix, AZ again but also his advanced MAG80 training course in 2011 at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club, 915 West Olney Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85041.  The classes will be held as follows:  November 7-11, 2011 MAG40 November 14-18, 2011 MAG80 (pre-requisite MAG40)   MAG40 CLASS DESCRIPTION:   MAG40 is personally taught by Massad Ayoob and is an intensive five day, 40-hour course including approximately 50% classroom in rules of engagement for armed law-abiding private citizens, emphasizing legal issues, tactical issues, and aftermath management. Topics will include interacting with suspects, witnesses, responding police officers…threat recognition and mind-set…management of social and psychological aftermath after having had to use lethal force in defense of self or others…and preparing beforehand for legal repercussions and minimizing exposure to them. Situations in the home, at the place of business, or “on the street” will all be covered.   The other 50% of this course includes the use of the defensive handgun under extreme stress. Draw from concealment, two-handed stances, shooting from cover, one-handed stances with either hand, speed reloading, and more are taught with an overall emphasis on fast, accurate shot placement. The course will culminate with a police-style qualification course. Estimated ammo count: 500 rounds. Prerequisite: basic understanding of firearms safety. Equipment List: Functioning, quality handgun with at least 3 magazines or speedloaders Safe holster with covered trigger guard, suitable belt and ammunition pouches Note taking materials, laptop Ear and eye protection Hat with a brim 500 rounds of ammunition Cost:        $800   MAG80 Class Description:  An intensive study of defensive firearms that teaches extreme speed for hits, and includes shooting at greater distances, and management of such contingencies as weak hand draws, one-hand only reloads and malfunction clearing if wounded, etc. Students receive several hours of hands-on training in handgun disarming, and in countering attempts by an attacker to disarm them. Shooting while moving, and use of long guns for defense, are among the areas covered. Round count: 500 handgun, 100 long gun. Prerequisites: MAG-20/Classroom plus MAG-20/Live Fire; MAG-40; LFI-I. Equipment List: Functioning, quality handgun. Safe holster with covered trigger guard and suitable belt and ammunition pouches. Minimum three magazines or speedloaders. Note Taking materials, Laptop Ear and eye protection. Billed cap or other brimmed headwear. 500 rounds handgun ammunition. Long Gun Requirements for MAG-80: Student may use centerfire rifle or carbine, or shotgun, or switch off between the two. Carbine may be pistol caliber, .223, .30 Carbine, or 7.62X39. Must have minimum three magazines.  Shotguns must have four-round magazine minimum. Rifles should be semiautomatic; shotguns may be semiautomatic or slide action.  Ammunition requirement will be 100 rounds total, which if using a shotgun should be in the form of 90 rifled slugs and ten buckshot rounds.  Cost:        $900    LOCAL HOTEL Information: The Baseline Rd area just east of I-10 has a variety of hotels and restaurants, as well as entertainment and shopping. Within an easy 9 mile commute down Baseline Road to the range. Restaurants vary from fast food to linen table cloths, and hotels from full service to economy.
